Connecting to OSU Lima Secure Wireless with Windows Vista

OSU Lima Secured Wireless-Network:
Setup for Windows XP

The following instructions apply to Windows XP Professional (running service pack 2) and Windows XP Home Edition.

Configure the Wireless Network Connection on Your Laptop

  1. To configure the network, right click on the wireless connection in the system tray.
    1. Choose View Available Wireless Networks.
    2. From the left column of the "Wireless Network Connection" window, choose Change advanced settings.
    3. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window that pops up, select the Wireless Networks tab.
    4. Check the box that says, Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
    5. In the "Preferred networks" section of the window, click the Add... button. This will begin the steps necessary to add the network.
  2. Click on the Association tab.
    1. Type OSU Lima Secured into the "Network name (SSID):" field.
    2. Select WPA2 from the Network Authentication pull down menu.
    3. Select TKIP from the Data Encryption pull down menu.
  3. Click on the Authentication tab.
    1. Choose PEAP from the "EAP type:" menu option.
    2. Press Properties.
    3. Verify the "Validate Server Certificate is unchecked.
    4. Under "Select Authentication Method", make sure EAP-MSCHAPv2 is selected.
    5. Check the Enable Fast Reconnect checkbox.
    6. Press Configure.
    7. UNCHECK the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) checkbox.
    8. Click Ok four (4) times to exit each of the wireless property boxes.

Your computer should now be configured to authenticate to the OSU Lima Secured network.

What to Expect When You First Connect
When the computer is on and in range of an OSU Lima Wireless Hot Spot, a balloon will pop up in the lower right corner of the screen.

  • Click on the balloon.
    A login screen will appear.
  • Enter your username and password used to login to the Lima campus computers. Type Campus for Logon Domain.   For students, this is your lastname.# that is used at Lima campus for computer lab logins.  For faculty and staff, this is your firstinitiallastname (i.e. jdoe) that you use for network and webmail logins.

    You may be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. If so, the certificate will be issued by msad.lima.ohio-state.edu

Your computer should connect and show a balloon with the status of the connection. Bottom of Form
