Performing Arts and Lecture series line-up set for spring season

The Performing Arts and Lecture Series on the shared campus of The Ohio State University at Lima and James A. Rhodes State College will welcome a variety of professional comedians, musicians and theatre scene designers during Spring Quarter 2006.

All PALS events are free and open to the public.

12:30 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2006 in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts: Robert Post, of the Post Comedy Tour, will select from various works in his repertoire including parodies, six character murder mysteries, juggling, magic and ventriloquism. Post’s PBS television special won the Central Education Network Award for Best Performance Program.

12:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2006 in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts: World renowned jazz pianist Helen Sung will perform with Jeff Halsey. Sung was a semifinalist in the 1999 Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition and has had featured bills at venues and festivals around the world. She has performed with such big bands as the Charles Mingus Big Band, Clark Terry’s “Young Titans of Jazz” Big Band, and Diva.

12:30 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2006 in Reed Hall 160: Get a Taste of Broadway with John and Nancy Shuffle, who bring to campus a combined 40-plus years of stage experience. This dynamic acting and singing duo will delight audiences with excerpts from major and minor Broadway shows. John has performed with orchestras and theater companies in Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, St. Louis, Cleveland and Columbus. Nancy has graced the stages in more than 60 productions across the Midwest, Florida and California.

12:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2006 in Reed Hall 160: Ohio State Columbus GLBT Student Services interim coordinator Larry Mrozek will visit to raise issues facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.

12:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2006 on the Quad: Singer/songwriter Annie Rapid will perform during the annual Springfest. Rapid was nominated for a Grammy related award for Best Unsigned Artist in 1988 and continues to travel the country performing her folk-pop music.

12:30 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2006 in Reed Hall 160: Scenic Designer Marketa Trosterova-Fantova will present a visual look at the world of theatre design. Fantova, who has been on the faculty of Texas Women’s University and the University at North Texas, will serve as the guest scenic designer for the spring production of Arms and the Man by George Bernard Shaw at Ohio State Lima.
