Media Alert:

University hosts Science Olympiad Saturday March 4

The Ohio State University at Lima will host the Northwest Ohio Regional Science Olympiad on Saturday, March 4, 2006, in various buildings on the shared campus of Ohio State Lima and Rhodes State College. Public events such as airplanes, catapults and robots will be in action in Cook Hall Gymnasium and lobby, and bottle rockets will be in the Engineering Technology building from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science, and recognizing outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. Science Olympiad tournaments are academic competitions that consist of individual and team events balanced between biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts and science applications. Elementary, middle school, and high school teams compete in regional Olympiads throughout the state.

Top scoring teams from regional competitions are invited to compete at the Ohio Science Olympiad at The Ohio State University in Columbus on April 29, 2006. Top ranked teams from state competitions will compete in the 22nd annual National Science Olympiad Tournament at the Indiana University in Bloomington, May 19-20, 2006.

The Northwest Ohio Regional Science Olympiad will advance six Division B teams and eight Division C teams to the Ohio Science Olympiad.
