Tribute to Violet I. Meek planned at Civic Center tonight The Ohio State University at Lima will honor its retiring dean and director at Time and Change: A Tribute to Violet I. Meek beginning at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the exhibit hall of the Veterans’ Memorial Civic and Convention Center. Dr. Meek is retiring June 30, 2003, after more than 12 years as dean and director. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and should conclude around 9 p.m. During her tenure at Ohio State Lima, Dr. Meek has been an ardent supporter and promoter of community growth and increased interaction between the University and the people and communities in its service area. As such, the Board of Trustees has created an award in her honor to recognize those working toward similar goals. Dow Wagner, chairman of the Ohio State Lima Board of Trustees, will present the first Violet I. Meek Town and Gown Award. The winner will be announced for the first time at the ceremony and will receive an award depicting both Galvin Hall and the Allen County Courthouse. Plans call for Dr. Meek to receive hats representing the many areas where she has had a great impact on the University and larger community. Scheduled speakers include Father David Ross, Mayor David Berger, Alberta Lee, Cathy Eldridge, Martie MacDonell, Dick Sheffield, Martha Farmer, Stephanie Patton, Judy VonBlon, Bill Ackerman and Michael Ayers. The University Chorus under the direction of Dr. Richard Mallonee will perform several of the dean’s favorite selections. # # # |
