Ohio State Lima professor talks about psychological warfare on NPR

An expert in psychological warfare at The Ohio State University at Lima is being called on by various news outlets to shed light on U.S. military efforts to influence the minds of Iraqis.

Allison B. Gilmore, Associate Professor of History, will be a guest on Midmorning with Katherine Lanpher, a two-hour show featuring guest interviews and listener call-in questions and comments dealing with national, international and regional issues. The show is a product of Minnesota Public Radio, the network also responsible for A Prairie Home Companion and Marketplace.

Dr. Gilmore is scheduled to be on air at 11 a.m. EST, Monday, March 31, 2003. Other guests will include Ret. Colonel Jim Noll, former commander of a psychological operations battalion during the first Gulf War; and William Martel, professor at the Naval War College in Rhode Island. The show is available online at http://news.mpr.org/programs/midmorning/

Dr. Gilmore is a military historian and author of You Canít Fight Tanks with Bayonets: Allied Psychological Warfare against the Imperial Japanese Army in the Southwest Pacific, a study of Allied propaganda operations designed to undermine Japanese military morale during the Pacific War. Dr. Gilmore is currently working on a book analyzing the roles and mission of the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section, an intelligence agency comprised primarily of Japanese-American linguists who performed a multitude of intelligence functions during the war with Japan and the occupation period.
