Gift of protective tarps will keep Barons baseball team on the field more
The Barons baseball field on the campus of The Ohio State University at Lima has new tarps thanks to a generous contribution from Lima Central Catholic High School. The bright blue tarps cover the pitcher’s mound and home plate. Their addition will cut down on field maintenance by about 20 percent and allow the Barons to play during inclement weather.
“Everyone associated with spring baseball in Ohio knows how valuable tarps can be to save a game on those questionable days,” said Rob Livchak, Coordinator of Athletics and Recreation. ”These tarps will help us to cut down on trying to reschedule make up games and you know how difficult that can be.”
LCC used the Barons’ facility as a home field for its varsity and ACME teams for two years while its new field was under construction.
The Barons play a 40 game schedule against other colleges in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference as well as many NCAA Division II and NAIA Division I schools. Students from Ohio State Lima and Rhodes State College are eligible to try out for the Barons. The next Barons home baseball game will be on March 29, 2009, against UC Clermont. All games are free and open to the public.
