Ohio State Lima opens Technology Lab for Teaching and Learning
New lab helps teachers integrate technology into their classrooms
The Ohio State University at Lima will open its new Technology Lab for Teaching and Learning, the TLTL, with an open house for educators, education students and the community from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in Galvin 452.
The TLTL offers technology, resources and technical support for current educators, Ohio State Lima Education students and teacher candidates. Students, faculty and educators can visit the TLTL to find materials and take the opportunity to learn and try new emerging technologies in an environment where assistance and support are available. The lab has Ohio State faculty and graduate assistants who will help teachers investigate the world of technology integration. They can also help educators align the available tools with the State of Ohio’s standard curriculum content areas. The TLTL is a place to locate web-based and hands-on materials and manipulatives that can be used in the classroom. Many of these resources and equipment are available for checkout for use in student classrooms and teacher education programs, including desktop and laptop computers, scanners, digital cameras, digital video cameras, voice recorders, math manipulatives, language arts materials, giant picture books, children’s resource library materials, social studies materials and equipment, and science materials and tools for learning.
As part of the “Ask one of our faculty” program, Ohio State Education faculty members are happy to share ideas and solutions for locating resources for the classroom. All Ohio State Education students, mentor teachers and their schools are eligible for this service.
The Ohio State Lima Education Department website is also available as a resource to teachers at lima.osu.edu/academics/education. The site includes resources for curriculum alignment activities, announcements on professional development workshops for educators, contact information for Ohio State faculty, and updates on Education student and faculty activities.
All the resources of the TLTL will be on display at the open house, which is free and open to the public.
