Ohio State Lima professor receives Fulbright Distinguished Chair grant
Ivo Herzog, PhD, professor of mathematics at The Ohio State University at Lima, was recently awarded a Fulbright-Charles University Distinguished Chair Grant. Herzog will be affiliated with Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, from February-June 2015.
"The Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Chair recognizes a limited number of scholars whose work has global significance and Dr. Herzog's work certainly puts him in that category," said Allison B. Gilmore, PhD, academic dean at Ohio State Lima. "His distinguished record of teaching and research at The Ohio State University helps connect Lima with the world and adds to the student experience."
Dr. Herzog will work on his project, "Categorical and Model Theoretic Methods in Representations Theory," while in the Czech Republic, where he will study the interface of algebra and foundational mathematics. His grant totals more than $35,000.
The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program comprises approximately forty distinguished lecturing, distinguished research and distinguished lecturing/research awards ranging from three to 12 months. Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program; there are approximately 584 Fulbright Scholar Awards in total, but only 37 of these are Distinguished Chair awards. Candidates should be eminent scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.
