Ohio State Lima hosts Megaconference Jr. with second grade participants
The Ohio State University at Lima will host "People Change the World": Megaconference Jr. and College/Career Exploration Day from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Thur., May 2, 2013.
Megaconference Jr. is a project designed to give students in elementary/primary and secondary schools around the world the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and contribute to each other’s learning in real time, using advanced multi-point video conferencing technology. Presenters will design and conduct videoconference-based presentations and activities focused on academic and cultural issues. Participants can address questions to presenters and collaborate with geographically diverse peers in collaborative learning activities, thus building international cultural awareness. Detailed information about the event including the day’s schedule of presentation is available at www.megaconferencejr.org.
The Ohio State University at Lima will serve as videoconferencing host site for the event. Area students, educators, parents, and interested community members are invited to attend. Participation is part of Ohio State Lima’s It’s About Discovery grant from the National Science Foundation. The Megaconference is a real-life application of learning and fits into the grant’s goal of promoting STEM careers and college development.
More than 50 second grade students and their teachers from Shawnee Elmwood and Lima South Sci-Tech Magnet will participate. Lima’s theme is "People Change the World." Eleven of the students will present in the live stream from Galvin 310 from 12:00-12:25 p.m. Five pairs and trios will present on five careers that will change the world.
