Ohio State Lima and Apollo Career Center partner to tear down building, provide experience
The Ohio State University at Lima is partnering with Apollo Career Center to tear down a building on the Ohio State Lima campus and provide students with valuable hands-on experience.
Nearly 50 students from the Construction and Equipment Technology program at Apollo Career Center have been using heavy equipment to take apart the old, unused maintenance shed near Mumaugh Road, piece-by-piece, since late September. They are expected to complete the project by the end of this week.
"This experience has been the opposite of constructing a building," said Phil Odenweller, instructor with the Construction and Equipment Technology program. "It has allowed students to gain knowledge and see what holds a building together, from the footers to the roof."
All of the wood and concrete materials from the de-construction project will be taken to Re:source Recycling in Lima.
