Auditions announced for Ohio State Lima’s Company
The Ohio State University at Lima departments of theatre and music will hold open auditions for the Spring Quarter musical production of Company from 6-9 p.m., Tues., Jan. 24, 2012, in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts. Callbacks will be from 6-9 p.m., Wed., Jan 25 and Thur., Jan. 26.
Company is a musical comedy based on a book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It was originally produced and directed on Broadway by Harold Prince with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. The show follows bachelor Robert as he contemplates his unmarried state on his 35th birthday. In vignette after hilarious vignette, we are introduced to Robert’s married friends and his three girlfriends as he weighs the pros and cons of married life. In the end, he realizes being alone is "alone, not alive."
Auditioners should come prepared with a short (2-3 minute) contemporary monologue or an original monologue that deals with love and relationships as well as a song from a musical. Singing a song from Company is encouraged, but not required. Auditioners who are called back will need to sing a song from Company. An accompanist will be available, but auditioners must bring sheet music. Dr. Margaret Young, assistant professor of music, will be available to rehearse with auditioners from 6-9 p.m., Mon., Jan. 23, 2012, in Reed 174. Anyone is welcome to audition, regardless of enrollment status at Ohio State Lima.
The public performances of Company will be at 8 p.m., Thurs., May 17, Fri., May 18, and Sat., May 19, and also at 2 p.m., Sun., May 20, 2012, in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall. Margaret Anich, lecturer of theatre, will direct and Dr. Bev Bletstein, assistant professor of music, will be the musical director.
Company is produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
