The Twelve Months come to life for Theatre for Young Audiences
The Ohio State University at Lima Theatre Department presents the charming tale of The Twelve Months the week of Nov. 14 in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts. Public performances are at 7 p.m., Fri., Nov. 18, and 2 p.m., Sun., Nov. 20, 2011.
Marušha is a kind, honest young woman who lives with her greedy, selfish stepmother and stepsister. They make her do all of the work around the home, and treat her like a servant. Determined to get rid of her once and for all, the two send Marušha out into the forest to try to accomplish some impossible tasks. The Twelve Months is indeed similar to the Cinderella story, only you won’t find princes or princesses or fairy-godmothers in this tale – just honest, hard-working Marušha, a kind herdsman named Hans, and the powerful "Twelve Months" of the year, who are personifications of the months of the year. These "Twelve Months" help Marušha accomplish her impossible tasks by providing her with gifts that are specific to what is available in a given month.
The Twelve Months is Ohio State Lima’s 17th production of Theatre for Young Audiences. These annual shows are geared toward children grades K-4 and their families. Nearly 2,000 children from schools around west central Ohio will attend daytime performances throughout the week.
The production is a Czech folk-tale by Božena Nemcova and adapted for the stage and directed by Dr. Joe Brandesky, professor of theatre. The show lasts approximately 40 minutes.
Tickets are $2 for all children 10 and younger, $4 for seniors and children over age 10, $5 for students and $6 for adults. To reserve tickets or for more information, call the Box Office at (419) 995-8382. Maps to campus are available at Lima.OSU.edu.
