Earth Day events planned at Ohio State Lima

The Student Senate at The Ohio State University at Lima will help the campus community “go green” through a series of Earth Day events Wed., April 20 and Thurs., April 21, 2011. Details of the events follow.

Wed., April 20, 2011

12:30-1:30 p.m. – Dr. Curtis Young, natural area coordinator, will lead a Nature Walk through the Lima Campus’ Tecumseh Natural Area, one of Allen County’s largest wooded areas with approximately 200 acres of forest. The group will meet in front of Galvin Hall.

3:00 and 6:30 p.m. – There will be two showings of the Pixar film Wall-E in the Galvin Game Room. The film tells the futuristic story of the small robot, Wall-E, who finds himself thrust into an adventure in which the fate of humanity rests upon his mechanical shoulders.

3:30 p.m. – Students will exhibit artwork in the Recycled Art Contest in Reed 160. Faculty members of the art department will jury the show that will consist of artwork from three categories: collage, sculpture and wearable. All artwork must be created from items that are made of recyclable materials. Judging will begin at 3:30 p.m., and winners will be announced immediately following judging. One winner from each category will receive a gift card.

3:30 p.m. – Dr. Curtis Young will lead the efforts to clear out an invasive species of honeysuckle in the campus’ woods. This particular honeysuckle bush is known for getting established and crowding out and shading all other vegetation in its area. The group will meet in front of Galvin Hall.

Thurs., April 21, 2011

12:30 p.m. – Natural Vibez will host an eco-friendly fashion show in the Galvin Game Room. Natural Vibez specializes in handmade organic artwork, jewelry and clothing.

All events are free and open to the public.
