Suicide Prevention Program arms faculty, staff with intervention techniques
The Ohio State University at Lima’s Counseling and Consultation Services hosts Dr. Ana Berrios-Allison from the Columbus Counseling Center to present training on suicide prevention and early intervention for faculty and staff from 12:30-2:00 p.m., Wed., Feb. 23, 2011, in the Ohio State Lima Visitor and Student Services Center off Mumaugh Road.
“Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students,” said Samantha Haudenschield, PsyD, Lima Counseling and Consultation Services. “This training will help faculty and staff identify and intervene early with students who are in need.”
Participants will gain the necessary knowledge and skills required to recognize warning signs and risk factors for suicide, identify three steps to help prevent a death by suicide, and understand the role of depression and mental illness. They will also learn how to replace fear with positive action, talk to someone about suicide, and locate available campus and community resources and support.
