Lima, OH – The Barons started the regular season with a big win over the Mavericks of OSU Mansfield. After getting out to an early 6 – 0 lead, the Barons never looked back as they maintained a lead throughout the contest. The closest the Mavericks ever came was early in the 1st half when they cut the deficit to just two, but guard Boomer Roller of Kalida quickly answered back for the Barons to help extend the lead to seven and it never got closer the rest of the way with the Barons winning with a final score of 79 to 66.
Leading the way offensively was the 2nd year center from USV, Dustin Williams. Williams netted 22 with some dominant play in the paint. Other key contributors were Roller with 14, and Ryan Schroeder of Fort Jennings with 10.
As a whole, the Barons were very aggressive, showing a lot of energy and excitement as a lot of potential was evident, especially in their ability to stretch the court. It should be an exciting season for the Barons as they go 12 deep with every member getting on the floor and contributing!
The Barons next travel to IU East for a weekend tournament, the first game tips off at 8pm, Friday November 7th.
