Lima, OH – Wednesday night was Parents night as the Barons Athletic department thanked the parents of all the Barons players with a short ceremony before the game. The Barons followed that up by winning big over OSU Marion, beating the Scarlet Wave by 39 points, 91 to 52.
It is definitely the type of game that Coach Koverman wanted to see as the Barons prepare for their state tournament that gets started this weekend.
The game was tight only for the first four minutes of the game as the Barons were having trouble finding their rhythm. Then DJ Evans (Lima Central Catholic) got hot from three point range and sparked a rally that the Barons never had to look back from as they built a 22 point lead at the half. The 2nd half of the game started out just like the first half ended with the Barons dominating all facets of the game, and building a lead that at one point was as high as 46 points.
The Barons had six members reach double digits in scoring on the night. Leading the way was Evans with 20. The other five to reach double digits were, Daniel Dray (Cory Rawson) with 19, Justin Mayer (Shawnee) with 13, Jordan Swift (Shawnee) with 12, Brent Cook (Spencerville) with 11, and Dustin Williams (Upper Scioto Valley) with 10.
The win raises the Barons’ record to 16 & 12 overall, 12 & 7 in the ORCC, and full of confidence heading in to this weekend’s first round of the state tournament.
The #4 seed Barons first game in tournament play will be Sunday, February 17th at 3pm on OU Lancaster’s campus as they take on the winner of Miami Hamilton versus OU Zanesville who play on Saturday, February 16th. The winner of Sunday’s contest will move on to the final four on OU Chillicothe’s campus being played the following weekend.
