Lima, OH – Saturday, the Barons faced an opponent that they will only face again if both teams reach the finals of the upcoming ORCC State Tournament as they hosted the #2 seed of that tournament the UC Clermont Cougars.
These two teams make for a very interesting matchup as the Barons have thrived this season by outscoring their opponents with fast paced play and the Cougars have found success with their in your face pressure defense that forces offenses to come to a hault.
The game was very close for the entirety of the game with the biggest lead being a lead of eight points by the Cougars early in the 1st half. In the 2nd half the Barons managed to take the lead a couple times, only to see the Cougars answer with a run of their own to take the lead right back.
The Cougars went on to win the game 79 to 72, holding down the Barons offense to their 3rd lowest output of the season. Earlier this year UC Clermont held the Barons to 69, their 2nd lowest output of the season.
Leading the way offensively for the Barons was Brent Cook (Spencerville) with 26. Other key contributors were Daniel Dray (Cory Rawson) with 13, and DJ Evans (Lima Central Catholic) with 10.
The loss drops the Barons’ record to 15 & 12 overall, and 11 & 7 in the ORCC.
The Barons final regular season game is at home this Wednesday, February 13th as they host OSU Marion in “The Hangar” in Cook Hall. Tip off is set for 7pm following the Lady Barons contest which starts at 5pm.
Come out and support the Barons! Admission is free for all OSU and Rhodes State students.
