Barons Baseball Starting ORCC Play

Lima, OH – With a core group of returning players, expectations are high for the 2014 edition of Barons Baseball. Led by junior firstbaseman Ryne Jerome and several sophomores, catcher Dylan Clifton-Lorton, pitcher Tyler Blumentritt, shortstop Brandon Burke, and thirdbaseman Joe Schmook, the foundation is there for good things to happen this year.

Adding to that is an exciting freshman class with utilityman Justin Bonzani of Fairmont H.S., pitcher Adam Von Sossan of Elida H.S., catcher Cody Fullenkamp Lima Shawnee H.S., pitcher Chase Allen of Bedford North Lawrence H.S., pitcher Dominic Pestello of Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S., Daniel Ankrum of Grove City H.S., Ron Stewardson of A.B. Lucas Secondary School, Wade Verhoff of Defiance H.S., Patrick O’Brien of Howell H.S., Austin Cobb of Ada H.S., John Segura Jr. of Northwood H.S., Matt Jay of Columbus Grove H.S., and Jeff Sinchak of Chardon H.S.

“I have very high hopes for this program this year.” Said head baseball coach, Abe Ambroza. “We are extremely young in years, but we are aging in experience quickly. I think we can win a lot of ball games in ORCC play if we keep playing the game the right way.”

The team is 7 and 17 overall, after a long trip south that included matchups with several NAIA programs including the #5 ranked team in the country Georgia Gwinnett and #17 in the country Union college. “I believe that the best way for us to improve as a team is to play the best we can schedule. Gwinnett, Union, and the rest of our schedule was pretty stacked. But, we didn’t go down there and roll over, we battled. We went toe to toe with some of the best teams in the country, and we learned from some things our opponents did. We are a better team today because of it.” Added Ambroza

The Barons travel to Hamilton today to makeup the April 3rd game that was PPD due to weather. Hamilton, the 2013 ORCC Regular Season Champion is currently 3 & 1 in ORCC play while the Barons are 4 & 0 in ORCC Play.

The Barons return home on Thursday, April 10th to host the 2013 ORCC Tournament Champions, Wright State Lake.
