Barons Mens Basketball Heating Up!

Lima, OH – The Barons Men have wrapped up their regular season, looking like a whole new team the last four games. The Barons won three of their final four games, including two on the road at OSU Mansfield and at ORCC West Co-Champion MU Hamilton, as well as a home win over Akron Wayne. When asked about the big win of MU Hamilton, Coach Pittman commented, “Against MUH we simply made our shots. Freshman Guard, Larry Fuqua III had 39 points and hit 9 of 14 from three point range. Late in the game, Freshman Forward, Heath Geyer made a three to put us in to overtime and then in OT made another three at the buzzer to give us the win! In addition to those individual efforts, guys off our bench, notably Sophomore Forward Caleb Hodges, Freshman Forward Jordan Barclay, and Freshman Guard Thomas Nolte came up with some big stops with our starters in foul trouble.”

Obviously, this is a great time for the Barons to be playing their best ball as the Ohio Regional Campus tournament begins this weekend. So, we asked Coach Pittman what the team is feeling like after the recent wins and how that might help in the upcoming tournament. “Well, when Heath made that shot, we went crazy. Finally getting over that hump was a huge weight off our shoulders, and it was definitely a great ride home! So, we are three and one in our last four games now and really starting to see that the stuff we do offensively and defensively works, and we are believing that it is going to work. It is a pity it took this long, but there are 11 guys that believe we can make some noise in this tournament and that is a great thing to see. OU Chillicothe gives us some challenges, but we will put together a game plan and see what we can do. Go Barons!!!!”

Well said Coach! Go Barons indeed! The Barons will take the court Saturday at 5pm at MU Middletown as they take on OU Chillicothe in the first round of the 48th Annual Ohio Regional Campus Tournament!
