Lima, OH – Barons baseball has received ten recognitions for 1st Team ORCC, 2nd Team ORCC, and ORCC ALL ACADEMIC.
Seniors Codie Roberts and Ryan Kortokrax earned 1st Team ORCC, while sophomore Cody Dukes and freshman Brandon Burke earned 2nd Team ORCC. Named to the ORCC ALL ACADEMIC Team were senior Ryan Kortokrax, sophomores Ryne Jerome and Derrick Pease, freshmen Matt Stechschulte, Matt Youngpeter, and Sam Altenbach.
For Kortokrax, this is the 2nd time he was named to the ORCC 1st Team in his career as he received 1st Team honors following his stellar sophomore season as well. Kortokrax was voted to the ORCC 2nd Team following his junior season. Kortokrax led the Barons in most offensive categories including hits, doubles, triples, homeruns, runs batted in, stolen bases, sacrifice flies, and hit by pitch. Kortokrax has played 125 total games in his career with the Barons. In that time, he has recorded 105 hits, getting his 100th hit on April 30th of this year.
Roberts’ selection was the first in his career. He was among the conference leaders in starts and innings pitched, carrying the load all season long for the Barons as the Ace of the staff. Roberts leaves the Barons having pitched 91 innings in his career, with a career record of 10 & 8, and an ERA of 3.32 vs ORCC opponents.
Dukes’ selection is his first of his career. The Barons three hitter was one of the most consistent hitters the entire season. He ended the season hitting .408 and had a slugging percentage of .525.
Burke’s selection was the lone freshman selection from the Barons. Burke was the everyday shortstop for the Barons, only giving up time on occasion when called upon to pitch. Known for his excellent range and defensive ability, he also was an offensive weapon for the Barons especially late in the season. Burke hit .269 overall in 2013, but had an average of .378 vs ORCC opponents!
The six members of the Barons selected to the ORCC ALL ACADEMIC Team all had a grade point average of at least 3.00 during the 2013 Spring Semester.
The Barons finished the 2013 season with a record of 14 & 20, ending their season in the ORCC Tournament Quarterfinals.
