Lima, OH – Barons Baseball started their 2013 season off with a record of 3 & 8. The Barons started the year with a DH split at Alice Lloyd College, followed that by winning one of three with Bluefield College, then finished their southern trip with a tough four game sweep at the hands of Georgia Gwinnett College. After returning home, the weather has not wanted to cooperate and the Barons have only been able to play once, a DH at OU Lancaster where they split with the Cougars, 6-0 and 4-6.
“We felt really good about where we were headed after our long southern trip. Despite the losing record, we had faced some great competition and made some strides as a team. Then we came home and this winter just did not want to go away! Finally, getting back on the field on Saturday was important for us. We got the split on the road, and now are ready to start ORCC play tomorrow as we host Miami Middletown!” Said Coach Ambroza
Leading the way for the Barons offensively thus far has been Senior Ryan Kortokrax and Sophomore Derrick Pease. “Krax (Kortokrax) and Pease have been vital to our ability to score runs. Krax, hits leadoff for us, and does a great job of setting the tone for the game right away. Pease, normally hits third for us, has come up big several times already with Krax or other runners on the bases. When we have those two rolling, plus Sammy (Sam Altenbach) and DC (Dylan Clifton-Lorton) hitting the ball hard, we are going to score a lot of runs with the top of our order.” Said Ambroza
“As good as we are at the top of our order, I believe we have a team that can hit 1 through 9. We have had that happen for us a couple times already this year. I think, the only thing holding us up right now is confidence and patience at the plate to stick to our approach. On occasion, our youth and inexperience shows as we try to do too much with one swing.” Added Ambroza
The Barons Home Opener is Tuesday, April 2nd vs Miami University Middletown at 4pm. They will follow that up with a DH @ 2012 ORCC Champion, Miami University Hamilton on Thursday, April 4th. This coming weekend has Ohio University Chillicothe coming to Lima on Saturday, April 6th for a DH starting at 1pm and The Ohio State University at Newark coming to Lima on Sunday, April 7th for a single game starting at 1pm.
