Barons Volleyball Week 1 Recap

9/19/11

Lima, OH – The Barons Ladies Volleyball team have completed their Pre-ORCC Season with 9 game versus several area NCAA Division II, III, NAIA, and Junior College foes with a record of 3 & 6. While, clearly not perfect, still a nice way to prepare the squad for the conference season that’s about to begin this week!

When asked what are some things the ladies are doing well thus far. Coach Ricker replied, “I think that we have a very tight group of ladies that enjoy working with one another.  No one on the team is selfish and they enjoy watching each other’s successes on the court.” “Also, our team’s serving percentage has been 91% this year and we have 3 players on the team that can jump serve, so we are serving more aggressively.”

In a response to a question about where the Lady Barons volleyball can improve, Coach Ricker replied, “We need to improve our defense and communication.  Also, we need to learn how to finish the games and win.  We've had so many close games and games where we were ahead and blew our lead and then made some mental errors and ended up losing the game. “

Coach Ricker also added, “The girls this year have really been dedicated to having a winning season.  We have played 9 different teams in a week, which has been exhausting but also rewarding. We knew that the beginning of the schedule would be crazy but we wanted to get as many games in as we could before school started as well as conference play.  I think we have prepared ourselves for the ORCC.”

Thus far in 2011, some of the key contributors statistically have been Megan Gerdeman, Alex King, Miranda Strous, Alena Crouse, and Brittany Sopher. Gerdeman and King are both currently averaging 8 kills per game. Strous is averaging 17 assists per game. Sopher and Crouse are averaging 9 digs per game.

Come out and support your Barons as they return home this Wednesday for their first ORCC game of the season versus nearby rival Wright State Lake. The match will start at 7pm and admission is free for all.
