Barons Athletics names three new coaches for 2010-2011 academic year
Aaron Hutchins, Jill Ricker and Quincey Simpson have been named new head coaches for the Ohio State Lima/Rhodes State Barons athletic teams for the 2010-2011 academic year.
“I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in Baron Athletics,” said Rob Livchak, Coordinator of Athletics and Recreation at Ohio State Lima and Rhodes State College. “The addition of these three quality individuals to our program brings creditability, passion and excitement to our student athletes and campus community.”
The Barons play in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference, which is comprised of regional campuses from various institutions including The Ohio State University, Miami University, Ohio University, the University of Cincinnati and the University of Akron. Jill Ricker is the new women’s head volleyball coach. She is a 2003 Ohio State graduate. Ricker played basketball for the Barons before going to Columbus to earn her AA, BS and MEd in Physical Education. She coached one year of volleyball for the Barons in 2003 before landing full-time physical education positions at Ohio University (2003-2008) and the University of Notre Dame (2008-2010). After seven years of teaching at the collegiate level, Ricker is happy to be back in the Lima area coaching volleyball for the Barons.
“I have always loved the Ohio State University and Rhodes State campus atmosphere,” Ricker said. “This campus offers student athletes an opportunity to play a sport they love while developing social and leadership skills, a sense of community and proud representation of school.”
Ricker is a graduate of Kalida High School and currently resides in Kalida with her husband Paul.
Aaron Hutchins is the new women’s basketball coach. Hutchins was coached by Bob Seggerson and was a three-year starter at Lima Central Catholic, leading his team to a 75-5 record during that span. Lima Central Catholic advanced to the state tournament in each of those three seasons and lost in the state semi-finals during Hutchins' sophomore and junior seasons. They advanced to the state championship game in his senior year. Lima Central Catholic was ranked Ohio's to Division III team during the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons.
Hutchins was named Ohio's Mr. Basketball in 1994, the first Division III player to receive that honor, as he averaged 25.3 points, 7.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds as a senior. He was also the MVP at the 1993 Five Star Camp.
Hutchins went to Marquette University and led Marquette in scoring.
In 2003, Hutchins was assistant coach for the Varsity team for his alma mater in Lima where he was able to work under his former high school coach Bob Seggerson.
“I have great hopes and am very excited to be part of the Barons team here at the Ohio State Lima/Rhodes State campus and look forward to a great season with the women’s basketball team,” Hutchins said.
Hutchins currently resides in Lima with his family.
Quincey Simpson, or Coach Q, is the new men’s basketball coach for the Barons. He is a 1993 graduate of Lima Senior who played his college basketball at NJCAA Kilgore College (Texas) and NCAA division 2 University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He has been an assistant with the Lima Senior program since 2003 with a record of 114-26 as a freshman and JV coach. Coach Q is also the primary youth basketball coach and trainer for the Team Lima AAU basketball program, where he played in 1993 to earn a scholarship to play at the collegiate level.
